Rhinebeck natives Gilda Lyons and Daron Hagen will perform a half-recital of songs drawn from the new Naxos Records release Lyric Fest - DARON HAGEN: 21st Century Song Cycles, visit with patrons, answer questions, and sign records.

Daron Hagen is a prolific composer of acoustic and electro-acoustic music for the concert hall and stage. He is also a stage director, conductor, librettist, essayist, clinician, and collaborative pianist. Described as a “composer born to write operas” (Chicago Tribune) whose music is “dazzling, unsettling, exuberant, and heroic” (The New Yorker), his opera Amelia was described as “one of the 20 best operas of the 21st century” by Opera News. Hagen’s work often includes collaborations with both mainstream and cutting-edge filmmakers, directors, conductors, choreographers, and musicians worldwide. Groves Encyclopedia calls art song “the center of Hagen’s catalogue.” The NATS Journal of Singing describes him as “the finest composer of vocal music of his generation." He has received numerous awards, including a 2014 Award in Music from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His works in a diverse array of styles and forms range from symphonies and concerti, to song cycles, and nine operas. His forthcoming opera, Orson Rehearsed, is being premiered  in September 2018, with his collaborators, Chicago’s Fifth House Ensemble

This new release on Naxos features some of Hagen’s finest new songs, performed by Philadelphia’s world-class art song specialists Lyric Fest in world-premiere recordings. Read more...
