Independent Bookstore Day 2017!
Join us as we celebrate Independent Bookstores all over the country today!
What is Independent Bookstore Day?
Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April.
Why are we celebrating independent bookstores?
Independent bookstores are not just stores, we see ourselves as community centers and local anchors run by passionate readers. In a world of tweets and algorithms and pageless digital downloads, bookstores are not a dying anachronism. We are living, breathing organisms that continue to grow and expand. In fact, there are more of them us year than there were last year. And we are at your service!
In Rhinebeck: STAND UP & SING! at 11am
Join author/illustrators Susanna Reich & Gary Golio and musician Robert Burke Warren for a celebration of Pete Seeger and protest songs! Hear the stories then sing along. The event aims to teach children the power of poetry, music, and artistic expression in difficult times. It's suitable for ages 6 and up but we encourage everyone to join in and sing!
In Millerton: 12pm-1pm
Enjoy a signature sample of Sloane Crosley's "FRENCH 75" cocktail courtesy of Millerton's own PEONY VODKA while perusing our exclusive IBD merch! The recipe is featured in A Literary Cocktail Party: Favorite Drinks from our Favorite Writers. 21 and up only of course.
Check out some of the exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on this day. Not before. Not after. Not online! NOT EVER again!
