A Children's Book Week Spotlight Event

In THE PROS OF CONS Writer Vanessa Montoya-O'Callaghan has been looking forward to the WTFcon for months. Not just because of the panels and fanfiction readings but because WTFcon is where she'll finally meet Soleil, her internet girlfriend, for the first time. Taxidermy assistant Callie Buchannan might be good at scooping brains out of deer skulls, but that doesn't mean it's her passion. Since her parents' divorce, her taxidermist father only cares about his work, and assisting him at the World Taxidermy and Fish-Carving Championships is the only way Callie knows to connect with him. When a crazy mix-up in the hotel lobby brings the three girls together, they form an unlikely friendship against a chaotic background of cosplay, competition, and carcasses.

If Alison Cherry had to pick a superpower, she’d choose teleportation. She once got to hold a platypus, and it was the best day of her life. If she could only eat foods beginning with one letter for the rest of her life, she would choose the letter P. She spent most of preschool pretending to be Curious George. She keeps detailed spreadsheets to track every book she buys and reads. Someone once dumped a bucket of water onto her head from her fire escape because she was talking too loudly outside her apartment. She can do the complete “Thriller” dance, which she hopes will help her blend in during the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

Lindsay Ribar grew up in New Jersey, where the only logical thing to do after high school was to move to New York. She majored in drama and English literature at NYU, and now works in book publishing, where she reads other people’s novels by day and writes her own by night. She owns approximately twelve bazillion CD’s, attends far too many concerts, and mainlines nerdy television shows like it’s going out of style. She is fond of wine, Ireland, musicals, long walks around Manhattan, and the color blue.

Michelle Schusterman is the author of middle grade and young adult books, including Olive and the Backstage Ghost, Spell & Spindle, The Pros of Cons, Secrets of Topsea (as M. Shelley Coats), The Kat Sinclair Files, and I Heart Band. She lives in New York City with her husband (and band mate) and their chocolate lab (who is more of a vocalist).

Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national celebration of books for young the joy of reading, with 800 schools, libraries, and bookstores hosting events from activity hours to reading hours from coast to coast in all 50 states.
